Dogsitting...

So, our good friends the seeemons have decided to abandon us and move to Georgia. I know - how could they do that to me? right? sigh. It's so incredibly sad, I can hardly talk about it. I guess, such is life and all that Bull - whatever. ;) Yeah, well, he got a job in GA and they pretty much can't pass this up and blah, blah, blah. He's moving my friend nicsims away, and I'm gonna miss her! (yeah, him too...) sigh. So anyway, in the process of this all, my FuddyDuddy has stupidlygraciously agreed to watch their dog Zeke for them. It's hard to move with a dog and all that, so while they are trying to get settled in and find a house, we'll keep zeke. Hmm. Now, if you know me at all - you know that I'm not exactly a dog person. I mean - I like other peoples dogs - I just don't want them to touch me (especially lick me - ewwwww). I'm not one of those people who just love on dogs, not exactly. And zeke - he's a BIG ASS DOG. He's a chesapeake bay retriever - that's a big, thickhaired, oily, strong, knock you over with his tail dog. So, zeke moved into our back yard this past Saturday and I have to say that it has gone so much better than i ever imagined. First of all, zeke is just not a barker, he's very quiet and laid back, what a mellow dog. Secondly, we've been going for a walk every night and that's been nice. He leaves me alone for the most, he doesn't jump on me - of course, I don't go out back and hang out with him - I leave that part to Fuddy. So, I think zeke and I may just work out to be friends. Who knows - at the end of this, I may want to get a dog to replace him... never do know. The kids are beside themselves excited that we have a dog, alex can't wait to get home to play with him! How funny is that?! Any tips on how to live with a dog for a non-dog person?

I love Dogs, especially Big ones. It sounds like he's a pretty smart pooch, and mellow, So, my advice is to just put out that vibe, like "I like You, but don't enjoy being licked, jumped on or leg-humped".
He will pick up on it pretty quickly,... just use your "Scolding Mom" voice, and he'll get it, just like the kids do.

UCAUTION
IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY IT IS ADVISABLE TO KEEP KELWHY AWAY FROM FIRE AND FLAMES.
