Morning y'all!

You know I've noticed that my daughter has started saying Y'all an awful lot! My son is 7 and he doesn't say it much, she's about to turn 4 and says it ALL OF THE TIME! But somehow, it sounds just incredibly cute when she says it! I've haven't yet fallen into the habit of saying it myself - I still say the "you guys", which shows how midwestern I am. When my son was little and would start to say it, I would correct him and make him repeat it the "Yankee" way. I'm such a bitch sometimes! I have lived here for 8 years now, close to the deep south, but not really. The heart of the bible belt for sure. Huntsville is a very eclectic town - you don't find many people here that are actually from here. Most are transplants from all over. But there still is a very strong southern accent, and they just use different words as well. For instance - Coke, now to me, that means Coca Cola or diet coke - in the south however Coke is all kinds of soda or pop (and see, when I say pop, they have no clue what I mean there either.) It's a language barrier. So anyway, I found when I moved down here that I was continually poking fun at the way they talked, the "y'alls" and the "fixin to's" (I still really hate the "fixin to" thing) - then one day it dawned on me (finally) who the hell am I to make fun of the way they talk, why was I being such an incredible YANKEE bitch! I was falling right into the "Yankee" stereotype that they have down here. They believe that all yankee's are rude and inconsiderate and snobs....hmmmm, just like I was acting. So anyway, I have stopped myself and do not do it anymore, at least out loud anyway! No real point to this story, just babbling on this morning, and thought I would share something that I was thinking about a bit. My friends back home tell me that I have acquired the southern accent. I don't hear it on myself at all, and of course my friends here tell me how northern I sound - Now I'm a woman without a country so to speak! haha! Well, alrighty then - going to run! Have a great day!
