OK, so my friend Tricia was reading this Blog and said "What's all this about the Buckeyes and the BCS? What is it?" I said "Tricia, you're such a girl!" :)
So, I'm wondering, does everyone know what the BCS is and what I'm talking about? Let me give a few details and explanations just in case...
So, it's all about College Football! The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), the Ohio State Buckeyes and the BCS (Bowl Championship Series). I love College Football. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a Superfan, I just enjoy watching it, and even more so when the Buckeyes are doing well. OSU is not my Alma Mater (I graduated from Kent State University, not much to watch in college football), but since I am from Ohio, I am by natural rights a Buckeye.
Article from the NCAA News - includes a history of the BCS.
So, long story short....Before the BCS there was never (or very rarely) a championship game. There would be a #1 team and a #2 team in the polls, but these 2 teams would not pair off and play each other. Therefore leaving an inconclusive National Champion. That's no way to end the season, who's to know what would happen if these top 2 teams would play? So the BCS guarantees that the top 2 teams will play each other in that years Championship bowl. Make sense? Another reason that the BCS was started was to make the rankings more subjective instead of objective, all of the other polls are ranked according to sport's writers, coachs and others, while the BCS is comp[uter generated on stats from each of the teams. So that's the quickie version of it, as far as I know it anyway...hope it clears things up.
